Porcupine Tree Live in Rome, Italy
Tendastrisce, September
18 2006
Hi guys,
what a beautiful gig I attended the last night!
I was at the Porcupine Tree
concert here in Rome, Italy and I just can tell you that it's been simply
awesome! The band was really tight and they played in such a great way and
with so much soul. As you may know,
Gavin Harrison was
sitting behind the drums and he played with such a great feeling, maturity,
taste, finesse, power and technique and he definitely played for the music
like the rest of the band. And guys... the sound that was coming out of his
drums was so beautiful and unbelievable as usual. I just can tell you that
the whole sound was perfect with great definition and one of the best I've
ever heard in my life. But the best thing it was...the music... In the 1st
half of the gig they basically
played the new record (Am I wrong...?) that they're going to record right
after the end of this tour (what a good choice guys!) and, again, I can tell
you that it's great music... so great... and it's really different from the
past two records In Absentia and Deadwing... I feel like it's
more on their "Prog" (so called) side and the compositions are really
strong. In times where improvisation rules in music (too many musicians see
each other in the studio and just play...sorry but in my opinion this not
necessarily means that you're doing a record...) it's really great and
mind-satisfying to look at a band like Porcupine Tree playing this great
music with such a strong project behind. I mean... I saw an unbelievable
amount of gigs (any kind of gig...) in my life in (25/30 years of concerts)
and in recent years I often find myself incredibly bored very soon at every
gig with the only desire to leave the venue as soon as possible and go
home... but not this time folks! Porcupine Tree really means something
else... I enjoyed the gig (and every P3 gig I've seen) from the very first
moment to the very last note with such a great excitement and forgot about
everything and this is really what I want from music and what music should
be!!!! And that's the point... I was listening to MUSIC!!!! How many chance
we have today to see and listen to something like this? Not too many I
guess...
It was a lot of years ago when I was avidly waiting to listen to the new
record of my favorite band and now... I have it again... what a wonderful
feeling it is!
Please take this precious little
advice,
if the band is coming near you
don't miss it for any reason because it could be one of the greatest
experience of your life.
Thanks guys and thanks Gavin for the inspiration you give me all the times!
Peace
